Let’s Talk Summer Sessions: The Good, The Bad, and The Sweaty
Okay, photographer friend—let’s set the scene:
It’s summer in the South. Your couple is glowing (read: sweating), the clouds are looking mildly threatening, and that 70% chance of rain is still playing mind games with your entire week.
You’re refreshing the weather app like it owes you money, your couple is texting “Should we reschedule?” and you’re low-key Googling “cute umbrellas with overnight shipping.”
Here’s the better move: just book the studio as your backup. And honestly? Even if it doesn’t rain, you might end up loving the setup more than the original plan.

The Studio Backup Plan (AKA: Your Summer Secret Weapon)
Here’s the move: book one hour at the studio, even if the forecast looks fine. Yes, even if you think you won’t need it.
Then run the session like this:
Step 1: Meet at the studio no matter what
This gives you a calm, cool place to greet your couple, ease into things, and get those awkward first-15-minutes out of the way. Pop a bottle of champagne (complimentary when you book the studio) if you want to win major bride points—adding a cute “cheers to being engaged!” moment.
Step 2: Start shooting
The studio gives you soft light, a controlled vibe, and plenty of time to connect. Your couple will be so much more relaxed when you head outside (or not) after already snapping a few good ones.
Step 3: Make the call
If it’s raining or oppressively hot? Stay in the studio. Show the bride a few sneak peeks on the back of your camera so she knows she’s not “missing out” on dreamy outdoor shots. In fact, she might even prefer the clean, polished studio look—and so will her makeup!
If it’s clear and breezy? Let’s hit the town. You’re already downtown. Walk to Pulaski Square, Chatham Square, the Railroad Museum, or pile into one car and head to Forsyth. The couple’s warmed up, the pressure’s off, and the shoot feels like a fun little date rather than an awkward transaction.
Why this makes you look like a genius
Let’s be honest—being a great photographer isn’t just about knowing your way around golden hour. It’s about:
Having a plan.
Staying calm under pressure.
Keeping the vibe light and fun, even when Mother Nature has other ideas.
Booking the studio as a backup makes you look ultra prepared, keeps your couple comfortable, and sets the tone for a smooth, easy session.
And if it ends up being one of those dreamy, no-cloud-in-the-sky kind of evenings? You still got great indoor shots, had a relaxing start, and gave your couple an experience they’ll rave about.
Totally no pressure, but I’m just going to leave this here… ;)
