Spilling the Tea with Tigerlily Harrington

Read on to discover more about Harrington’s winning piece, “In The Snow, We Are All Children,” and her creative process…
HOW did you become interested in photography?
I began shooting on film about three years ago when I dug out the old film camera from storage. I immediately loved capturing memories that way and enjoyed the delightfully analog experience of getting my photos developed and printed to put into a photo album.
Within the past two years, I was working in communications and needed to capture clients on camera. I really enjoyed it and began using my digital camera for more personal photography. I found a welcoming community with the Savannah Photo Walks, where I could join as a novice and be inspired by so many fellow creatives of all different levels.
How would you describe your style of photography?
I definitely feel like my personal style is still developing, but I'm discovering my style more with each shoot I do!
I definitely look out for interesting lighting and angles; but when shooting portraits, my focus is on making sure that my subject's personality or the vibe of the shoot really shines through in the photo.
WHAT DO YOU SHOOT WITH?
I mainly shoot with my Canon Rebel T7.
But I loveee my Canon Rebel GII, which is the film camera I took my submission photo with. It was actually my parents' camera from when my siblings and I were growing up in the early 2000s.

TELL US ALL ABOUT YOUR PIECE, “IN THE Snow, we are all children.”
"In The Snow, We Are All Children" was taken on the Great Savannah Snow Day of 2025.
Until I saw the snow really sticking the night before, I refused to get my hopes up that we might actually have a snow day in Savannah. So, when I woke up to several inches on the ground, I wanted to make the most of it!
I was out of the house and in Forsyth Park before 8am - I took both of my cameras and was able to capture the first early risers enjoying the snow in the park, which was still largely untouched.
I walked around 10 miles that day, determined to take in the city and how beautiful it looked in the snow as much as possible.
HOW did you interpret the prompt, “WHAT MAKES LIFE WONDERFUL”?
I really believe that life is most wonderful when we find wonder in all the little joys of life: our connections with other people, the feeling of the sun on our skin, the sound of music and our body’s ability to move to it.
As adults we tend to lose our childlike wonder and ability to play, but we can find it again if we try.
I know that snow never fails to instantly make me feel like a child and just want to go play in the snow! I was so delighted to be able to capture other people having this same experience - a group of friends having a snowball fight in the park. It was the perfect visual to express the feeling of wonder that the prompt made me think of.

THE LAST DROP:
As a kid I used to be so creative all of the time, but in adulthood I came to believe that I was "just not a creative person".
But last year I realized that was just because my identity had become so centered around work, and that I had to dedicate time to working my creative muscles. I became determined to tap back into my creative pursuits, and photography has become one of my favorite ways to do so.
I still have so much to learn, and I am so excited for the opportunity to be inspired within the beautiful spaces that Wonderland offers!
As a winner of the What Makes Life Wonderful Photo Contest, Tigerlily has won studio time and Society-member access! We can’t wait to see what they do with their time at the studio!
