Spilling The Tea With Leslie Weeks
Photographer Leslie Weeks was one of two photo contest winners, having submitted her vibrant piece Joy In Full Color.
Read on to discover more about Weeks’s winning piece and her creative process…
HOW did you become interested in photography?
I got into photography when I met my fiancé who is professional photographer and videographer. Moonlighting as his second shooter when needed and executing his birthday photos has been pretty sweet to brag about. I'm no pro though.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
My personal creative process involves answering the questions;
1. What do I have to say?
2. Who's my audience?
3. What emotions do I want to spark up in my audience?
Another direction I may take in my creative process is to browse my Pinterest and let the inspo juices flow; piecing together the concept of my shoot based on various colors and patterns I may see… and poses too. I can see a pose I'm drawn to and base my entire shoot on that one particular pose then work around it.
WHAT DO YOU SHOOT WITH?
Here's what I shoot with if I'm the one behind the lens: Sony A7iii and IPhone 11 Pro.
Leslie Weeks’s winning piece, Joy In Full Color.
TELL US ALL ABOUT YOUR PIECE, “JOY IN FULL COLOR.”
When planning for this shoot, I was inspired by the colorful gumballs that you always used to see in the gumball machine at restaurants and I wanted to bring the idea of blowing the biggest bubble to life.
HOW did you interpret the prompt, “WHAT MAKES LIFE WONDERFUL”?
I interpreted the prompt, "What makes life Wonderful" as the beauty of fleeting moments, and in this case like blowing a bubble.
I wanted to bring that feeling out through color, playfulness, and expression. The purple afro, the bubble, represents joy, softness, and the childlike freedom we often forget to hold onto.
Life is so wonderful in those carefree, vibrant moments that may not last forever, but leave a lasting impression.
THE LAST DROP:
I would like to give a huge thank you to my fiancé, Seventeaan (Joshua A.), for all of the help during this shoot, and a huge shoutout to our daughter Sevyn for all the good vibes during the shoot for this piece. I also cannot forget to thank everyone at Wonderland Photography Studios for creating a space for all creators here in Savannah, Ga and those who travel from all over to do what they do best, create.
As a winner of the What Makes Life Wonderful Photo Contest, Leslie has won studio time and Society-member access! We can’t wait to see what they do with their time at the studio!
